چکیده

Introduction Cardiac metabolism assessment with hyperpolarized 13C in pig models requires dedicated coils design capable to provide large sensitivity regions. This work presents a comparison between a quadrature birdcage coil and a circular coil both designed for hyperpolarized studies of the heart in large animal models with a clinical 3T scanner. The results are presented as Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR)-vs-depth profiles using experimental SNR extracted from the (1-13C) acetate phantom chemical shift image (CSI).

Myocardial fatty acid metabolism probed with hyperpolarized [1-13C]octanoate

Background The heart normally derives most of its energy from the oxidation of fatty acids. Myocardial metabolism can be monitored non-invasively by MRS using hyperpolarized (HP) 13C-labelled compounds; however, the vast majority of studies reported have used HP pyruvate and did not measure fatty acid catabolism. The myocardial metabolism of HP [1-13C]butyrate and [1-13C]acetate has been report...

Hyperpolarized 13C magnetic resonance reveals early- and late-onset changes to in vivo pyruvate metabolism in the failing heart

AIMS Impaired energy metabolism has been implicated in the pathogenesis of heart failure. Hyperpolarized (13)C magnetic resonance (MR), in which (13)C-labelled metabolites are followed using MR imaging (MRI) or spectroscopy (MRS), has enabled non-invasive assessment of pyruvate metabolism. We investigated the hypothesis that if we serially examined a model of heart failure using non-invasive hy...

3D cardiac Chemical Shift Imaging of [1-13C] hyperpolarized acetate and pyruvate in pigs

Background 13C Dynamic Nuclear Polarization (DNP) with rapid dissolution together with Magnetic Resonance Chemical Shift Imaging (CSI) have been used for non-invasive real-time metabolic assessment in cardiac experimental models on a clinical 3T scanner. Here, we report an in vivo comparison of hyperpolarized [1-13C] pyruvate and [1-13C] acetate perfusion and metabolism: a method based on a 3D ...
